St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 16, 2015) - The Dunedin Blue Jays snapped the St. Lucie Mets seven-game winning streak with a 6-2 victory on Thursday at Tradition Field.
Derrick Loveless smacked a three-run homer in the second inning and the Blue Jays added two unearned runs in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.
Reliever Brady Dragmire snuffed out a potential Mets rally by striking out two batters with the bases loaded to end a dicey bottom of the fifth for Dunedin.
The Mets pitching staff fueled the winning streak by allowing just 11 runs in the seven straight victories, but on a night when the Mets needed their offense to step up the bats were quiet. The Mets only managed five hits and struck out 11 times. They stranded 11 runners on base through the first six innings and left the bases loaded in the fourth and fifth.
Starting pitcher Kevin McGowan allowed five runs, three earned, on nine hits in six innings. The Loveless homer with two outs in the second accounted for all three earned runs.
Dunedin starter Sean Reid-Foley only lasted 3.2 innings after he walked four and struck out five. However, he did not give up a run.
After Alberto Tirado walked three batters in just 0.2 innings, the Blue Jays turned to Dragmire who settled them down. Dragmire held the Mets to two hits while striking out four in 2.2 innings. He picked up his first win.
Richard Urena led Dunedin at the plate by going 4 for 5.
For the Mets, Victor Cruzado doubled and walked twice. No Met had a multi-hit game.
Jeff Walters, recovering from Tommy John Surgery, pitched on back-to-back days. He struck out the side in the ninth.
The Mets (47-44, 12-9) will look to get back on track when they host the Blue Jays again on Friday. The game can be heard on WPSL 1590 AM or on www.stluciemets.com.
