Conroy Picks Up Third Triple-Double as Vipers Beat Armor in Overtime

HIDALGO, TEXAS - Will Conroy picked up his third triple-double in the last four games as the Rio Grande Valley Vipers beat the Springfield Armor 136-128 in overtime tonight at State Farm Arena in front of a crowd of 4,546.
Conroy finished with a season-high 31 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists. It's his seventh-career triple-double and the fourth in franchise history. Over the last four games, Conroy is averaging 19 points, 12 rebounds and 13.3 assists.
The 136 points by the Vipers is the second-highest single-game total in franchise history.
Up 62-58 at halftime, the Vipers (25-9) opened the third quarter on a 9-2 run. Kevin Rogers scored the first four points and Kenny Hasbrouck scored the next five during the run.
The Armor (5-26), who are now losers of 11-straight, responded as Kyle McAlarney and Tre Whitted hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game 83-83 with 2:35 remaining in the third quarter.
After the Armor took a 103-97 lead in the fourth quarter, Conroy hit a lay-up and Ernest Scott hit a three-pointer to bring the Vipers within 103-102 with 5:00 remaining. Hasbrouck gave the Vipers the lead back with a jumper 54 seconds later. Conroy followed with a driving lay-up before Tony Bobbitt responded with a long three-pointer to tie the game 106-106 with 3:16 left.
Conroy hit a pair of free throws to give the Vipers a 109-108 but Justin Hawkins responded with a three-pointer go give the Armor the lead back. Third-year Viper Stanley Asumnu hit a floater to tie the game with 1:26 remaining. Conroy hit one of two free throws with 46.8 seconds left to give the Vipers a 112-111 lead. McAlarney banked a shot in with 32.7 seconds left to give the Armor a 113-112 lead. A palming violation on Conroy gave the Armor the ball back with 16.5 seconds left. An immediate foul sent Bobbitt to the line, where he hit both free throws to give the Armor a three-point lead with 15.6 seconds remaining. Conroy inbounded the ball to Scott who gave it back to Conroy to hit a three-pointer to tie the game with 11.5 seconds left.
The Vipers opened overtime on a 12-1 run as Hasbrouck had three points, Craig Winder had five points and Conroy added a bucket and two free throws to put the game out of reach. The Vipers outscored the Armor 21-13 in overtime.
Winder had a season-high 26 points, reaching the 20 points plateau for the fifth-straight game. He also had a career-high tying five steals. Winder is averaging 23.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.4 steals over the last five games.
The Vipers return to action on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. when they host the Bakersfield Jam at State Farm Arena. Fans are encouraged to donate four non-perishable food items to get a free ticket as part of the Hoops Against Hunger food drive benefiting the Food Bank RGV. Doors open at 4:00.
