Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

The Moose Jaw Warriors and Conexus Credit Union are once again teaming up for the Conexus Saves initiative.

The 2019 - 2020 season marks the fourth year of the Conexus Saves program.  Warriors goaltender Adam Evanoff and members from Conexus will visit elementary schools in our city and help educate students about the importance of financial literacy.

"I'm not too far removed from these students ages and I know what it's like to be unfamiliar when talking about finances," commented Adam Evanoff, who is entering his second season with the Conexus Saves program.

"Working with Conexus has been great.  They keep the visits fun and do an amazing job relating to the students which helps them to open up and talk when we come to their classroom," Evanoff added.  "When we speak to the students, we try to help them understand the basics and the importance of saving money.  For example, starting a savings account does not take that much time and if they start now, they can be ahead in the long run," Evanoff added.

"Financial literacy is a critical life skill and something we're passionate about at Conexus," said Dina Holoien, Branch Manager, Conexus Credit Union.  "Through our partnership with the Moose Jaw Warriors and through our Each One Teach One financial literacy program, we'll provide our future leaders with tools they can use to make smart, responsible choices with their money."

"We want people to feel confident about their money.  If we can provide just one tip or piece of advice to a person that helps them improve their overall financial well-being, for us, that's a win," Holoien added.

Adam and the Conexus staff will supply the students with educational material on the benefits of saving money and give them advice from personal experiences.

Visits will be fun and lighthearted and focused on engaging with students to help them understand financials.  The goal of the visits is to "relate" to students and not intimidate them with numbers.
