October 4, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kamloops Blazers News Release
Kamloops, BC - Kamloops Blazers General Manager Matt Bardsley announced today that the hockey club has acquired 20-year-old defenseman Max Martin from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for a 2nd round WHL Bantam Draft pick and a 6th round WHL Bantam Draft pick. Both draft picks traded to Prince Albert are the Blazers picks for the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.
"We are excited to add Max to the Blazers organization," commented Bardsley. "He is an offensive minded defenseman, who can also play a sound defensive game. His hockey sense and puck skills are excellent and his game will add to a solid group of defenseman that we have here in Kamloops."
Martin has played 214 WHL games with Prince George and Prince Albert over the last five seasons. He has collected 22 goals, 84 assists and 106 points in his WHL career.
The Winnipeg, MB native had six goals, 35 assists and 41 points in 59 games last year. He also added eight assists in 21 playoff games and two assists in three Memorial Cup games as he helped the Prince Albert Raiders win the Ed Chynoweth Cup in 2018-19.
"Max was part of a tremendous Prince Albert team who represented the WHL at the Memorial Cup last year. His playoff and Memorial Cup experience will be valuable to our team," said Bardsley.
The 6'0" and 180lb defenseman attended the Boston Bruins training camp in September. He is in his fourth WHL season after originally being a second round pick of the Prince George Cougars in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.
Martin is expected to make his debut with the Blazers on Saturday, October 5th when the Everett Silvertips are in town. Game time is 7:00pm at the Sandman Centre.
