Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. â The Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL have begun their march across campuses around Kern County, as two longtime classroom programs return for this season. T.H.I.N.K. and Classroom Champions both reward young students for their work in school.
T.H.I.N.K., which stands for Turning Hockey Into New Knowledge, is a reward program in which kids are given credit for reaching a specific goal set by their school. Whether it's earning good grades, participating in a fundraiser or completing homework, those qualifying for the program attend an assembly at the school featuring Condors players. One or more members from the 2003-04 team will go to the school, along with either Colonel Claw'd or Cal, the Baby Condor, to speak to kids and hand out tickets the students have earned, which are made available by the program's sponsors, 101.5 KGFM and ARRC Technology.
Each T.H.I.N.K. Night the name of one of the participating students is selected at random and entered into a drawing to win a free computer for their school. ARRC Technology provides the computer that will be given away.
Condors Classroom Champions is a program that rewards students in elementary and middle school for outstanding attendance. It works the same way as the T.H.I.N.K. Program, in that the school's participation is highlighted by a visit by Condors players. CBS29 and McDonald's sponsor the Condors Classroom Champions program, which also distributes complimentary tickets to the students who earn the reward. For more information regarding the T.H.I.N.K. Program and Classroom Champions, contact the Condors office at 324-PUCK (7825).
"Each year it seems the number of players we bring in from universities goes up," says Condors Head Coach Paul Kelly. "Guys like Paul Rosebush, Jason Ralph, Quinn Fair, Glen Mears and others on our team that furthered their education are more prepared when they turn pro and eventually move on in their careers. The importance for getting an education is increasing.
The Condors host the San Diego Gulls tomorrow for Team Poster Giveaway Night, sponsored by Bright House Networks, KERN 1410 and SBC Smart Yellow Pages. That night will also be the night for the Condors historic Millionth Fan. The winner will spend the night in the Condors suite, "A Million Seconds of Condors Hockey" with four season tickets for the remainder of the season, the NHL Center Ice Package, an NHL Center Ice jacket, tickets to WWE and the use of a luxury car for a week.
The Condors will also continue their Student ID nights, the first of which is coming up on Wednesday, November 19th against the Long Beach Ice Dogs. With the program, college, high school and junior high students can receive $1 admission by presenting their student ID on specific Student ID Nights. WB-12, KISS 96.5 and Golden Empire Transit sponsor the Student ID Nights.
Individual seats may be purchased through the Centennial Garden box office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday, with extended hours on gamedays.
Tickets may also be purchased by phone through Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at www.ticketmaster.com or at any Ticketmaster location. Season tickets, mini-packs and group outings can be purchased by phoning the Condors office at 324-PUCK (7825), or stopping by the office in Centennial Garden next to the ticket windows.
