March 23, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, have announced today the signing of G Jerad Kaufmann. The announcement was made by Condors Head Coach Marty Raymond.
Kaufmann, 24, recently wrapped up his college career at the University of Nebraska - Omaha, where he spent four seasons. He finishes as one of the best goaltenders in the history of the program, which also turned out NHL (and former ECHL All-Star) goaltender Dan Ellis. The Roseville, Minnesota, native compiled a 45-38-14 record with the Mavricks, posting a 2.84 goals against average (GAA) and .898 save percentage.
The 6-foot-3-inch, 200-pound backstop ranks second in school history in wins, games, minutes and saves, while also in the top five in GAA and save percentage. He set a school record his senior season with a 2.31 GAA, and helped guide UNO to the second round of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs, suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Notre Dame, the top ranked team in the nation. Kaufmann was recently named the CCHA Illitch Humanitarian Award winner for his work in the community, which included the organizing of a Military Appreciation Night that raised over $25,000.
"The organization is looking for a goaltender of the future," said Raymond, "and it's a good opportunity to see what Kaufmann can do. We heard that he was a steady guy, very calm in net. He had a great (CCHA) tournament and lost to one of the best teams in the country, and he got positive reviews from the Anaheim organization as well."
Kaufmann was placed on the 3-day Injured Reserve today and will be eligible to be activated on Thursday.
