Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades announced today that John Marks will be joining the team's coaching staff as an assistant to Head Coach Malcolm Cameron as the team prepares for its playoff push.
Marks brings an extensive coaching resume with him, including winning two ECHL Championships after guiding the Charlotte Checkers to the Riley Cup Championship 1996 and the Greenville Grrrowl to the Kelly Cup Championship in 2002. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native has been a head coach in the professional ranks since 1987.
"I wanted to look at the possibility of having an assistant coach for this year's playoff run." Cameron said. "Once the decision was made to bring someone on board, I thought of John immediately. John and I have similar philosophies and having a second voice in the locker room and a second set of eyes on the ice will help us in our quest to bring the Kelly Cup to our great fans in Southwest Florida."
Marks began the 2008-09 season as the head coach of the ECHL's Augusta Lynx and led the team to a 6-10-2 record before the club ceased operations on December 2. He has been a head coach in the ECHL since the 1993-94 season when he took over the helm of the Checkers, where he coached for five seasons. Marks then took over the bench in Greenville where he remained for eight seasons. As an ECHL head coach he is first overall in games coached with 1,008 and 491 wins.
In 22-years of coaching in the International Hockey League, ECHL and SPHL Marks has amassed a combined record of 763-636-141.
