Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif., - Kevin Truelson and Kevin St. Jacques each scored a goal and an assist as the Bakersfield Condors avoided elimination with a 4-2 victory over the Fresno Falcons in Game Five of the Pacific Division Finals in front of 4,086 fans at the Rabobank Arena. Fresno leads the best-of-seven series three games to two with Game Six on Friday at the Save Mart Center.
The Condors hit the scoreboard on their first power play of the evening. After Kevin Truelson one- timed the puck from the left point, Kevin St. Jacques threw the rebound along the goal line from the left wing corner. St. Jacques' shot deflected off a Fresno defenseman and toward Alexandre Bolduc, who fired the puck past Falcons netminder Jamie Holden for a 1-0 Bakersfield lead.
St. Jacques made it 2-0 Condors when he stripped the puck away from Fresno's Luke Curtin. St. Jacques faked his forehand and lifted a backhander shot over the right side of the fallen Holden with 10:04 left in the first period.
Kevin Truelson connected on a two-man advantage off of passes by Sean Venedam and Mathieu Brunelle. Truelson's wrist shot from the top of the slot sailed under the crossbar over the right shoulder of Holden to make it 3-0 Bakersfield with 3:42 remaining until the second intermission.
Fresno struck for its first goal of the game on a five-on-three goal by Kelsey Meunch. The Falcons crashed the net and Luke Curtin batted a pass into the crease off Ryan Munce. Meunch buried the rebound to cut the Condors lead to 3-1 at 7:54 of the third period.
The teams traded four-on-goals late in the period after Shawn Mather surprised the 4,086 fans in attendance with a slap shot at the top of the left wing circle that sailed past Munce to bring Fresno within a goal. Dave Bonk responded just 20 seconds later by flipping the puck off the top of the left shoulder of Holden and across the goal line to put the Condors back up by two at 4-2 with 4:10 left in the game.
Ryan Munce earned the victory with 31 saves on 33 shots faced. Jamie Holden was credited with the loss despite making 26 stops on 30 Bakersfield attempts.
Other notes: Sean Venedam leads the ECHL with 11 playoff assists. Mathieu Brunelle scored his first point since Game Four vs. Long Beach. The Condors improved to 10-0-0 on the year on Wednesday nights and are now 1-0-0 all-time in the month of May.
The Condors visit Fresno's Save Mart Center for Game Six of the Pacific Division Finals on Friday, May 5th at 7:30pm. If needed, Game Seven will take place in Fresno on Saturday, May 6th at 7:30pm.
