San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls and rookie brothers Mark and Mike Adamek have agreed to terms for the 2006-07 season, General Manager Martin St. Amour announced Thursday. Per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Mark and Mike were born in El Centro, Calif., but spent the majority of their childhood living in northern San Diego County (Fallbrook-Bonsall area). The two, who both graduated from Lake Superior State last week, finished the 2005-06 regular season in the ECHL. Mark spent the final 11 games with the Gulls, while Mike played 13 games for the Idaho Steelheads. Neither competed in postseason action, as both needed to finish-up their last semester at Lake Superior.
Mark, who turned 24 on May 2, notched two assists and eight penalty minutes in his 11 games for San Diego. He completed his senior year at Lake Superior State this season, recording three assists and six penalty minutes in 18 games. The 6-foot-4-inch, 207-pound defenseman played 120 games in four complete years at Lake Superior, registering 13 assists and 77 penalty minutes.
"I'm certainly excited to come back to San Diego and the Gulls," Mark said. "Mike and I have played together for years and it'll be really special being able to play together again... and at home."
Mike, who turned 25 on April 28, notched six points (3g, 3a) and 12 penalty minutes in his 13 games for Idaho. In his senior year at Lake Superior State this season he recorded five points (4g, 1a) and two penalty minutes in 16 games. The 6-foot-3-inch, 196-pound forward played 92 games in four years at Lake Superior, registering 30 points (10g, 20a) and 79 penalty minutes.
"When deciding whether to come to San Diego or stay with Idaho, being with my family was the deal-breaker," Mike said. "I'm really excited to play in front of my family and for a such a good organization."
Said St. Amour, "We're very happy to get these two players locked up for next season. The coaching staff and entire organization was extremely impressed with Mark during his stint with us at the end of the regular season. He's going to be an outstanding defenseman in this league bar none. As far as Mike is concerned, we've heard great things about him. I had the chance to seem him play here at the end of the season when Idaho was in town and was impressed with him as well. Both guys will absolutely help us next season."
Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Professional Hockey Players' Association, player contracts cannot be approved or registered by the ECHL until June 6.
The Gulls open their fourth season in the ECHL in October. Season ticket packages are currently on sale. For pricing and benefits, contact 619-224-GOAL, ext. 7.
