Condors Pound Long Beach 8-4
March 20, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Long Beach, Calif. â The Bakersfield Condors matched a season high for goals and set a new team record with their 18th road win of the season, defeating the Long Beach Ice Dogs 8-4 in front of 917 fans at the Long Beach Arena on Wednesday night.
It was a bizarre first period. Long Beach scored a shorthanded goal to take the early lead, only to have the Condors answer on that same power play to tie the game. The Ice Dogs scored again, with Tyrel Frisky's second of the night, to take a 2-1 lead before the match paused for a declaration of war statement from President Bush. Afterwards, Long Beach and Bakersfield exchanged tallies before the Condors took a 4-3 advantage. Jeff Goldie put home two goals in the span of 15 seconds to take the lead late in the first period.
In the second period, Long Beach tied the game at four with Jamie O'Leary's backhander on a partial breakaway just 4:40 into the frame. Bakersfield was undaunted, however, and regained the lead with a pair of late goals. Mike Marostega scored his first goal as a Condor and second of the year on a breakaway to make it 5-4, and Paul Rosebush scored his 18th of the season with just 24 seconds left to make it 6-4. Rosebush has scored a goal in five straight games.
Jonas Lennartsson extended the Condors lead during the third period. He wound up and blasted a slap shot through the pads of goaltender Mike Sherman, who replaced Danielle Dube after the first period. Rosebush added his second of the game into an empty net to make it 8-4 Bakersfield. Sherman ended up with the loss, in getting his first decision of the season, while Kevin St. Pierre recorded his 32nd win of the year to lead the league. The Condors broke the old record of 17, set by the Bakersfield Fog in the 1996-97 season.
The Condors return home to host the San Diego Gulls on Friday night at 7:00pm. That night Skyy Dogs USA brings their amazing canine acrobatic act to the Garden, sponsored by Time Warner Cable and Radio Disney. That game will also be televised live on Time Warner Cable Ch. 21. On Saturday night, the Anchorage Aces are in town for the return of the Famous Chicken. The Chicken appears courtesy of KGET-TV 17, K-Lite 105.3 and Bill Wright Toyota.
Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden Box Office, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. Season and group tickets may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden.
