Condors jersey auction brings in over $9,000

Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors of the West Coast Hockey League held their second jersey auction of the season on Sunday, a 5-3 victory over the Idaho Steelheads. A total of $9,025 was raised for the American Bone Marrow Donor Registry, as the team's Metal Blade warm up jerseys were put up for bid.
After the hockey game, Condors PA announcer Chris Peace auctioned off the jerseys as the players modeled them at center ice. The money raised goes toward testing donor samples and enhancing the proficiency of those in need receiving treatment. The registry helps connect physicians to over 3,000,000 bone marrow donors worldwide. The Spanish Radio Group sponsored the auction.
Earlier this season, $23,300 was raised for the Petroleum Shrine Club with the team's Veteran's Day jerseys, bringing this season's total up over $32,000 raised through jersey auctions alone. The highest bid in each auction has been a goaltender: Kevin St. Pierre in November's auction, and Danielle Dube in this one.
"It was phenomenal," said Headquarters Director Joan Keller. "This is so wonderful. We're so grateful for the fans to help us in the life saving effort. By testing new donors, we are helping to give back the gift of life."
"We're always pleased with the charity of our fans," said Condors Assistant GM Chris Freshour. "This is a national cause that received a lot of local attention a couple years ago, and we're happy to help them out. Our jersey auctions are a lot of fun and have been very successful throughout the years, and we owe that to the fans who participate."
The Condors will host another Jersey Off Our Back Night on Saturday, March 15th, when the Condors take on the Idaho Steelheads. Sponsored by KLLY 95.3, this one will feature jerseys designed by the fans in a contest earlier this month. From the dozens of submittals, three were selected and combined. That auction will benefit CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Kern County.
The next game for Bakersfield is on home ice against the San Diego Gulls on Friday night at 7:00pm. The first 3,000 fans will receive a Condors team trading card set, sponsored by Time Warner Cable, FOX Sports 800 and Wm. K. Lyons Insurance. Friday's game can also be seen live on Time Warner Cable Ch. 21, and will be replayed on Saturday morning at 10:00am. All Condors games, home and away, can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, with "Condors Countdown" starting 15 minutes prior to face off.
Single-game tickets are available through the Centennial Garden Box Office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday. Tickets may also be purchased by phone through Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at www.ticketmaster.com or at any Ticketmaster location. Season tickets and group outings may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825), or by visiting the Condors office at Centennial Garden.
Condors droppings: The Condors monthly website auction features the chance to co-host the Condors Coach's Show, live from the Holiday Inn Select. The winner will sit alongside Condors Broadcaster Kevin Bartl and Head Coach Paul Kelly, and interview select Condors players for the show, which airs live on Thursday nights from 6-7pm on KGEO AM 1230. They will also receive a Condors long sleeve T-shirt and four tickets to an upcoming game. Log on to www.bakersfieldcondors.com to place your bid. All proceeds go towards the American Red Cross - Kern County Chapter.
