Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors annual Open House and Family Day has been set for Sunday, October 9th from 2pm to 5pm. For the second year in a row, the event will be held at the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center, which is located behind Rabobank Arena at 1325 Q Street. The event is sponsored by KGET-TV 17. Admission is free with the donation of two canned food items, which will benefit the Salvation Army Food Pantry.
With training camp officially opening on Thursday, October 6th, the first chance for fans to meet the team is at the Open House. The center will hold a free public skating session from 2pm to 3pm. Fans will have the chance to take the ice with the Condors during this time. Skate rentals will be available at a cost of $3.00 per person.
The team will then hold a full practice from 3:15pm to 4:45pm. Fans are invited to stay and get their first look at the 2005-06 Bakersfield Condors as they prepare for the upcoming season. In addition, season ticket holders will be able to pick up their ticket books at the Open House.
"The Open House is a much-anticipated event, as it kicks off a new season," said Condors President Matthew Riley. "We're excited to hold this event at the Ice Center again. It's a great venue for the Open House because of the intimacy; fans get very close to the action. We know our season ticket holders are anxious to get their hands on their ticket packs, and we enjoy presenting them in this fashion."
As part of the annual event, the Condors are asking that fans help in a charity canned food drive. An "admission price" of two non-perishable items is being asked, with the collection being donated to the Salvation Army Food Pantry. "We are very grateful for the generous support of the Bakersfield community," said Salvation Army Captain David Ebel, who is helping to lead the Kern County chapter's relocation efforts for victims of Hurricane Katrina. "With new families moving here, every can will be a blessing and will make a difference in someone's life."
Individual tickets go on sale on October 10th for the Condors October 15th pre-season match against the Fresno Falcons. The box office at the Rabobank Arena will be open at 10am and tickets can be purchased by calling TicketMaster at 322-2525.
The Bakersfield Condors open their 2005-06 ECHL campaign in 32 days at home on October 22nd against the Victoria Salmon Kings.
