Condors Defeat Ontario 2-1 In OT

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors (20-9-2-0, 42 points), topped the Ontario Reign (13-16-3-2, 31 points) 2-1 in overtime on D Sasha Pokulok's power play tally on Saturday night in front of 5,738 at Rabobank Arena. LW Shawn Weller earned two assists in the game to increase his point total to 30 in 31 games. The Condors dominated play in the early goings of the first period, out-shooting the Reign at one point 10-2, but G Curtis Darling stood his ground. Ontario took a 1-0 lead on a slap shot by F Michael Pelech from the right circle with 5:04 remaining in the first period. The Condors started G Timo Pielmeier, while the Reign countered with G Curtis Darling, the ECHL leader in minutes played.

Just past the midway point of the middle stanza the Condors tied it up, finally sneaking a shot past Darling. C Maxime Macenauer notched his 2nd of the season at 10:26 on the power play to make it 1-1.

In the third period, the Condors came up huge on the penalty kill, fending off a 5-on-3 man advantage that lasted 1:42. F Andrew Ianiero had his shot headed for a gaping net paddled away by a diving Darling to keep the game tied at one. Ultimately, neither team gave an inch in the third period as the game headed into overtime. Momentum swung in the Condors' favor in the extra frame with a penalty called against Ontario. Bakersfield took advantage, on Pokulok's shot from the high slot that hit Darling and bounced over the goal line for the victory at 1:26. Pokulok earned his 10th goal of the season, tying him with Weller and F Stephane Goulet for the team lead among active players.

NOTES FROM THE NEST:

The Condors finished 2-for-7 on the power play and were a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill... Stephane Goulet led all Condors with seven shots, and extended his point streak to six games (5g-3a)... Ryan Menei had his four-game point and assist streaks snapped... Chris Brooks arrived at noon today to play in his first game with the Condors, after being traded earlier in the week by Utah... Three stars: 1st - Sasha Pokulok (BAK); 2nd - Timo Pielmeier (BAK); 3rd - Curtis Darling (ONT).
