Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - G Michael Ouzas made 32 saves in regulation and was perfect in the shootout to lead the Fresno Falcons to a 3-2 win over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 6,025 fans at Rabobank Arena Saturday night.
Bakersfield (1-2-1, 3pts) opened up the scoring with a power play tally just under six minutes in. Second year D Martin Frechette recorded the first goal of his pro career with the drive from the left point. The Condors also initiated most of the physical play in the period, and outhit the Falcons throughout the night. Fresno (3-0-0, 6pts) tied it up late in the period, with D Kenny MacAulay potting his first of the season at 17:34. Shots were 9-9 after 20 minutes.
The Condors continued the physical play in the second period, earning four power plays and outshooting the Falcons 14-6. But rookie G Michael Ouzas was equal to the task for the Falcons, keeping it 1-1 after 40 minutes.
In the third period, the Condors regained the lead with the fourth goal of the season from F Matt Caruana, coming at 3:46. Caruana, who was set up by a nifty feed from RW Dany Roussin, has a goal in three of the four Condors games this season. Fresno battled back and got the equalizer with 6:38 remaining, on a blast by C Mike Radja.
It remained tied through regulation as well as overtime, but in the shootout Fresno scored twice while keeping the Condors off the board for the extra point. It was the most penalized game of the year for the Condors, with the two teams totaling 70 minutes of infractions.
