Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - When the Victoria Salmon Kings and Stockton Thunder met on Saturday night in the second of a three game set. Victoria looked to rebound after last night's 5-2 loss to the Thunder. Goaltender Jonathan Boutin started in net for the Kings while the Thunder countered with Bryan Pitton.

The Salmon Kings came out and controlled the first part of the period, but the Stockton netminder was equal to the task. Tim Wedderburn sent Wes Goldie in on a breakaway, and the King's sniper went top shelf, glove side on Pitton for the 1-0 lead. That's how the teams would head to the locker room after 20 minutes.

Stockton tied it up five minutes into the second period when Cory Urquhart took advantage of an odd-man rush on the power play and beat Boutin blocker side with a backhand. Minutes later Jordan Foote buzzed around the Stockton zone and threw a shot on net. The rebound ended up on Brady Leavold's stick who put it in for the 2-1 lead. The Kings netted a power play goal of their own when Dan Gendur blasted a slapshot past Pitton for the 3-1 lead. The Salmon Kings struck again when Gendur found Wes Goldie on the side of the net for an easy redirect for a 4-1 lead. Stockton would reply before the end of the frame when Neil Petruic notched a power play marker. The Kings led 4-2 after two periods.

The Salmon Kings scored an insurance goal late in the third period when Olivier Labelle jammed a puck past Pitton. Salmon Kings 5 Thunder 2.

Victoria went 1/8=12.5% on the power play and Stockton ended 2/6=33.3%. The Salmon Kings out shot the Thunder 42-20.

The three game set will wrap up tomorrow when the teams meet for a matinee special at 1:05 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at the Select Your Tickets box office at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, by calling 250-220-7777 or by visiting www.selectyourtickets.com. Get hooked on Salmon Kings hockey!
