READING, PA − Aaron Slattengren scored twice and Michael Mullen scored his first pro goal which proved to be the game winner as the first-place Lynx (3-2-1) defeated the Reading Royals 3-2 at the Sovereign Center on Sunday evening. Riku Helenius was strong again in goal, making 29 saves in the victory.

Reading opened the scoring as Shawn Snider beat Helenius to give the Royals a 1-0 lead at 7:46 of the first period. Then Slattengren scored the first of his two goals at 13:13 of the first when he whacked the puck out of mid air on the right wing side to even the game at one.

The Lynx would take their first lead of the game when Slattengren finished a great tic-tac-toe play from Chase Watson and Matt Auffrey and it was 2-1 Augusta.

Michael Mullen fired a shot past Danny Taylor at 6:32 of the third period for his first pro goal to give the Lynx a 3-1 lead. Dinos Stamoulis sneaked the puck past Helenius on a sharp angle shot which cut the Lynx lead to one but Augusta held on for the 3-2 win.

The Lynx out shot Reading 39-31 and finished 1 for 7 on the power play while Reading went 1 for 4. Danny Taylor made 36 saves in the losing effort. Augusta continues their road trip with a game this Friday, Halloween night at 8 p.m. in Charlotte.
