May 2, 2016 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

Wilmington, De. - The Frederick Keys dominated in all facets of the game resulting in a 11-2 rout of the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Monday night at Frawley Stadium. In the game, the orange and black set a season-high for runs, as the club plated markers in five different innings. A balanced scoring effort, five Keys had multiple hits, while seven had an RBI.

Wilmington scored the initial run, but the Keys delivered 11 of the last 12. With two outs and a runner at first in the third, Jay Gonzalez doubled home Jonah Heim. One inning later, the visitors added three more. Back-to-back RBI triples by Jomar Reyes and Heim scored a pair, while a double steal by Heim and Tad Gold made it a 4-1 affair.

Blue Rocks starter Pedro Fernandez was tagged for two more runs in the fifth. Exiting after 4.1 innings, the righty allowed five runs on six hits to go with three walks. Entering the day second in the league in ERA, Fernandez (2-1) gave up more runs on Monday then he had in four prior starts combined (three).

The Keys big inning was the sixth, as the team added five more tallies with two outs. Anthony Caronia got aboard via a single, stole second and scored on a base hit and an error. Steve Wilkerson and Wynston Sawyer followed with doubles, before Rodriguez crushed a two-run homer to make it 10-1. In the game, the Keys scored nine of their 11 runs with two outs.

Even though the offense was clicking, Cory Jones turned in a strong start. Delivering six innings, the Californian scattered three hits, walked one and struck out seven. It was Jones' (1-1) first win since April 2014, as he missed all of 2015 due to Tommy John surgery. Additionally, his start was the third quality outing by a Frederick starter in four games.

In two starts, Grimes, 24, went 2-0 with a 2.31 ERA. Over 11.2 innings, he allowed three runs on 10 hits, struck out eight and walked three. The former Georgia Tech product helped seal the award with a strong start on Sunday against Winston-Salem. Firing off 6.1 innings, Grimes surrendered only two runs on four hits to post his second quality outing of the year. Additionally, it was the longest start by a Keys pitcher this season.

Frederick and Wilmington play the middle game of three on Tuesday. Lefty Mitch Horacek (1-3, 5.73) starts for the Keys against Blue Rocks southpaw Matt Tenuta (2-1, 4.29). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com. Frederick returns home on Tuesday, May 10 when Wilmington comes to town.
