Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks and Compass Oncology are pleased to announce they have raised over $7,000 to help fight cancer as a result of the Compass Oncology "Hawks Fight Cancer Game" held Saturday, November 3rd.
Throughout the game Winterhawks fans joined the rally to end cancer by visiting our partner charities concourse booths, donating dollars by purchasing purple chuck-a-pucks and lavender "Hawks Fight Cancer" t-shirts, and bidding on special lavender warm-up jerseys autographed by Winterhawks players. In addition, Winterhawks goalie Shane Farkas donated $20 for every save he made during the game and Winterhawks captain Cody Glass pledged $10 for every shot he attempted. $7,035 was raised and will be donated to our five partner charities; The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen and Candlelighters for Children with Cancer.
The Winterhawks also honored special guests before the game including: Compass Oncology Breast Surgical Oncologist Dr. Toni Storm-Dickerson; Compass Oncology employee and 5-year breast cancer survivor Tamika Herbert; Winterhawks Education Advisor and 2 year pancreatic cancer survivor Sue Johnson; and Sharmin Mannek, mother of Winterhawks player Mason Mannek and a breast cancer survivor who "rang the bell" marking the end of her treatment on October 9th!
If you wish you donate to help find a cure for cancer we encourage you to reach out to any of the five partner charities or the charity of your choosing.
