Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - Fresh off snapping a 3-game losing streak Wednesday night in Swift Current, the Brandon Wheat Kings will be out to put the breaks to another streak Friday night when they play host to the Regina Pats for the first time this season.

The Wheat Kings, who dumped the defending Western Hockey League Champion Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday, have dropped three consecutive games at Westoba Place and have been outscored 18-5 in the process.

Brandon enters the game with a record of 11-7-3-3 and trail third place Moose Jaw by two points in the Eastern Division.

The Pats meanwhile are 8-17-0-0, after hosting the Memorial Cup last spring.

With another game in Swift Current scheduled for Saturday night, Brandon coach David Anning hopes that his club can string some wins together over the course of the next two weeks.

"Our effort (Wednesday) needed to be better and our structure needed to be better and I thought we did that. It was a good opportunity to get back on track and I thought our team was a lot better. It's a step in the right direction...now we have to keep getting better moving forward. We can't be satisfied with getting the win (against the Broncos)."

Friday's game will be the first between the two teams in Brandon and only the second of the season.

Back on October 6th, Brandon was a 7-3 winner at the Brandt Centre in Regina.

During the 2017-18 campaign, the Wheat Kings won three of eight games against the Pats and over the course of the last five years, Brandon has compiled an 8-3-1-0 record in games played on home ice.

Captain Stelio Mattheos continues to lead the Wheat Kings in scoring. Entering the weekend, the Carolina Hurricanes' draft choice has 37 points, including 21 goals in 24 games. Luka Burzan, who scored twice in Wednesday's win over the Broncos, is next with fifteen goals and 28 points.

Nick Henry meanwhile leads the Pats with fifteen goals and 40 points in 25 games, followed by Jake Leschyshyn with sixteen goals and 32 points.

Fans attending Friday's game are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy, food or cash donation for the Westman & Area Traditional Christmas Dinner. Donation stations will be set up inside the east, west and south main entrances to the arena.

Tickets to the game - which is a presentation of Assiniboine Community College - are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
