Houston Comets News Release
HOUSTON - The Houston Comets today announced the finalized roster for the 2006 WNBA season. Kayte Christensen, Astou Ndiaye-Diatta and Tiffany Stansbury were waived today to round out the opening day roster.
The Comets' roster now stands at 11 players, including three of the seven original players left in the WNBA since its inception: newly-acquired Tamecka Dixon, Sheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson. Dawn Staley will be returning for her eighth and final season as a player in the WNBA. Anastasia Kostaki (Greece) and Mistie Williams (21st selection out of Duke) are the only two rookies to make Houston's active roster. Renae Camino (24th selection from Australia) was placed on the Draft Reserve list as she is not expected to play this season. Please see the roster below for the entire Houston Comets 2006 roster.
This season will mark the 10th Anniversary for the Comets and the WNBA, making it the longest-running professional women's league in history. The 2006 season will tip off at Toyota Center on May 21 when the Comets host the San Antonio Silver Stars.
