Comeback Kids Do It Again

NORFOLK - For the second Friday in a row, the Norfolk Admirals entered the third period trailing their opponent by one goal. For the second Friday in a row, they found a way to win.

Frederik Andersen made 37 saves and Josh Brittain broke a 1-1 tie midway through the third period as the Admirals (17-21-2-1) defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (19-18-2-2), 2-1, at Norfolk Scope Arena.

Patrick Maroon, who set up Brittain's game-winner, had scored the game-tying goal just over three minutes earlier. After scoring early, the Sound Tigers could not solve Andersen (8-10-1) in the final 58:47 of the contest.

The Admirals and Sound Tigers will face off once again tomorrow night at Scope at 7:15 p.m. Prior to that, the "Guns and Hoses" game to benefit Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters will take place at 4:00 p.m.

The Sound Tigers opened scoring just 1:13 into the contest. Jon Landry sent a shot from the right point through traffic. A scrum ensued with Andersen prone just outside the crease, and Scott Campbell was able to tuck the puck into the net for a 1-0 Bridgeport lead.

After a scoreless second stanza, the Admirals turned on the heat in the third period, out-shooting the Sound Tigers, 14-10. Maroon tied the game at 1-1 exactly seven minutes into the frame. He cut through the left wing and centered a pass for Dan Sexton, whose shot was stopped by a spectacular save by Bridgeport goaltender Kevin Poulin. However, the rebound landed just outside the goalmouth, and Maroon reached around from behind the net to tuck it inside the left post for his 12th goal of the season.

Norfolk took the lead less than four minutes later. Maroon forced a turnover in the right corner and sent a feed to Brittain in the right circle. Brittain sent a quick wrist shot off the crossbar and into the net at 10:39 for his fourth goal of the season.

In the final minutes, Bridgeport received two late power plays and pulled Poulin in favor of the extra attacker. However, they were unable to get the equalizer past Andersen.

Poulin (12-10-2) made 36 saves on 38 shots, but was saddled with the loss.

Norfolk was 0-for-2 on the power play. Bridgeport was 0-for-4.

The Admirals and Sound Tigers play once again tomorrow night at Scope. The annual Guns and Hoses game to benefit Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters takes place at 4:00 p.m. before the Admirals and Sound Tigers play at 7:15 p.m. A ticket to one game gets you into the other for free. Plus, the third post-game skate with the Admirals of the season takes place after the conclusion of Saturday's Admirals contest. A limited number of skates will be available or you may bring your own skates.

Due to inclement weather and the resulting traffic conditions, the Admirals announced that any unused tickets for the Friday, January 25th contest against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers will be honored for any remaining 2012-13 regular season game played at Norfolk Scope Arena (based upon ticket availability). These unused tickets may only be redeemed at the Norfolk Scope Box Office.
