
Comeback falls short in LumberKings 6th straight loss

Beloit, WI - The Clinton LumberKings, for the first time since August of 2013 were swept in a four-game series by the Beloit Snappers at Harry Pohlman Field, running their season long losing streak to six games with an 8-7 loss on Monday night. Despite home runs by Ariel Sandoval, Juan Camacho, and Jack Larsen a late charge by the LumberKings (9-9, 48-40) fell one run short.
Jared Poche started for Beloit and picked up his fifth win of the season for a six-inning outing. He allowed the first of Clinton's three home runs in the top of the second. Larsen with one out in the inning slugged his 10th home run of the year out to left center field to give the LumberKings a brief 1-0 lead.
Pcohe (5-6) allowed just one more run in the fifth on a Camacho RBI single. Over his six inning performance he held Clinton to just two runs on three hits while walking two and striking out five.
Larsen's second inning home run was answered in the bottom of the frame by a four-run rally from the Snappers. Three straight hits off LumberKings starter Ray Kerr chased home the first run of the inning to tie game and JaVon Shelby then put Beloit on top for good with a three-run homer over the scoreboard in left center field.
The home run was one of four allowed by LumberKings pitching, a new season high and Kerr (3-8) would allow two more before his three-inning outing came to an end.
Beloit added to their lead in the bottom of the third with back-to-back home runs from Jesus Lopez and Logan Farrar.
In the bottom of the fourth, Lazaro Armenteros capped the scoring for the Snappers with a two-run home run to left center for his fifth of the year. The barrage of homers by Beloit gave them an 8-1 lead before the LumberKings would begin to mount their comeback.
After Camacho's RBI single in the fifth, Clinton erupted for a five-run rally in the top of the seventh inning. Camacho collected his first home run of the season with a two-run shot to left and three batters later Ariel Sandoval picked up his 10th home run of the year with a three-run homer to left.
The LumberKings put the tying run on in the top of the ninth but would get no closer. Snappers reliever Joseph Camacho set down the final two LumberKings batters to record his first save of the season and run Clinton's losing streak to a season high six games.
The LumberKings will take tomorrow off before returning home for a six-game homestand with against the Eastern Division. The Great Lake Loons will kick off the home stand with the opener of a three-game set on Wednesday night. Clinton will throw right-hander Scott Boches (2-2, 2.75) while the Loons will counter with righty Edwin Uceta (2-5, 4.08). First pitch for game one is slated for 6:30 PM.
