Comeback Falls Short Again

SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Wichita Thunder lost 5-3 to the Mississippi Riverkings at the DeSoto Civic Center on Saturday night. For the second straight night, the Thunder couldn't quite overcome a 5-1 deficit despite a flurry of power play goals in the third period.

After the Riverkings took a 1-0 lead at 6:50 in the first on a goal from Jeff Nelson, Chris Tarkir tied the game less than minutes later, scoring off of a faceoff at 8:18.

A parade of four Riverkings' goals in the second period proved to the difference in the game. Jeff Nelson and Garrett Larson each finished the night with two scores for Mississippi.

Trailing 5-1, the Thunder benefitted from a full two minute 5 on 3 power play. Jason Tessier scored at 13:42 in the third to cut the lead to 5-2, while Bryan Nathe roofed another power play goal just 19 seconds later. Wichita was held off the scoreboard for the final 5:59.

Wichita went 2 for 5 on the power play, while going 4 for 5 on the penalty kill. John Daigneau, making his first start as a member of the Thunder, took the loss. Daigneau saved 33 of 38. Jason Duda notched two assists for the second straight night.
