RiverKings vs. Wichita Matchup

The RiverKings meet the Wichita Thunder for the second time in as many nights at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven this evening. Game time is 7:05 PM. Tonight is Pink at the Rink night, with the American Cancer Society and Breast Cancer Awareness being the featured non-profit. Presenting sponsors tonight include Thompson Dunavant, PLC, Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, and First Tennessee Bank.

A free pink souvenir puck goes to the first 1,000 fans, there will be the breast cancer awareness ribbon logo painted on the ice, and the RiverKings will again wear the pink jerseys they wore last night. Those jerseys will be auctioned off after tonight's game with the proceeds going to ACS and breast cancer awareness.

Tonight is the first of three Kooky Canuck Kookamonga Challenges, bringing Kooky Canuck's seven-pound burger eating contest to the rink this evening.

We're IN!...The RiverKings last night became the second team to make the Central Hockey League post-season playoffs after last night's 5-3 victory, along with Rapid City's 5-3 loss to the Tulsa Oilers, following Colorado, who had already clinched a playoff spot a couple of weeks ago. They are first in the CHL Northeast Division standings with a record of 33-14-3 for 69 points, two more than second-place Bossier-Shreveport. Mississippi is also second in the Northern Conference playoff ladder chase, behind Colorado, but the RiverKings are now within five points of the Eagles for first place in the conference standings.

Wichita comes to the rink tonight in fourth place in the CHL Northwest Division with a record of 16-31-3 for 35 points.

Season Series: Mississippi has won the season series with the Thunder with a 5-1-0 record.

The Last Time Out...Friday, February 20th, 2009 - at RiverKings 5, Wichita Thunder 3 Bobby Chaumont scored a pair of goals in a four-goal Mississippi first period on the way to a 5-3 victory over the Wichita Thunder last night, win that clinched a Northern Conference playoff spot for the RiverKings, along with Rapid City's loss to Tulsa last night. Derek Landmesser assisted on three of the RiverKings five goals, and Martin Gascon and Andrew Lackner also had a pair of assists each. Kevin Beech won his 27th game of the season with a 17-save effort as the RiverKings out shot the Thunder 42-20. Mississippi scored three goals in the space of 39 seconds of the first period on tallies from Louis Dumont and two from Chaumont. Matt Summers added a goal for a 4-0 lead, before Wichita first got on the scoreboard. Garrett Larson scored in the second period to give the RiverKings a 5-1 lead, but the Thunder scored two more goals for the final result. Neither team scored on the power play.

Five's Alive!...Mississippi scored five goals in a game for the fourth consecutive time last night, having scored five goals in both wins last weekend in Colorado (5-2, 5-3), and a 5-1 victory at Rocky Mountain on Sunday afternoon.
