Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - With one month remaining in the regular season, the Texas Brahmas clinched a playoff position in a 4-3 overtime loss against the Odessa Jackalopes on the road. The Corpus Christi Ice Rays loss confirmed the Brahmas postseason play Saturday night.

The Brahmas ended the first period up 1-0 thanks to a goal from Captain Craig Minard from Greg McConnell and Tyler Skworchinski. Goaltender David Cacciola stopped all 11 Odessa shots in the opening period. The Jackalopes powerplay came alive in the second, when Mike Lesperance beat Cacciola to tie the game 1-1. Four minutes later Texas forward Brandon Benedict returned the favor with his second goal of the season on the powerplay, giving Texas the 2-1 lead into the second intermission.

Texas found themselves in costly penalty trouble in the final period, giving up one more goal on the Odessa powerplay. Jason Deitsch earned his third goal in two nights at the 11:28 mark, a goal that seemed to put Texas over top, but Odessa was able to comeback with less than one minute remaining in regulation to push the game into overtime. Following a scoreless OT, the teams went into a ten round shootout in which Odessa won with a Philippe Plante goal. The Brahmas earned one point in the game.

Texas returns home for an afternoon game against the Oklahoma City Blazers at 3:05 PM at the NYTEX Sports Centre Sunday. For ticket information please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423.
