Columbus Blue Jackets Sign Defenseman Aaron Johnson

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Aaron Johnson to one-year, two-way National Hockey League-American Hockey League contract, club Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced July 5. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Johnson, 28, has registered 14 goals and 32 assists for 46 points, 191 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +13 in 225 career NHL games, including 7-19-26 and 93 penalty minutes in 116 games with the Blue Jackets from 2003-07. Last season, he collected 9-26-35, 70 penalty minutes and was +10 in 72 games with the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals.

Columbus' fourth pick, 85th overall, in the 2001 Entry Draft, Johnson combined to record 4-6-10 and 35 penalty minutes in 41 games with Calgary and Edmonton in 2009-10, setting career highs in goals, assists (tied) and points (tied). The Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia native has tallied 26-83-109 and 419 penalty minutes in 251 career AHL games with Syracuse, Bridgeport, Rockford and Milwaukee. Prior to his professional career, he notched 40-155-195, 439 penalty minutes and a +14 cumulative plus/minus rating in 257 career games with Rimouski of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
