Barrie Colts News Release
The Barrie Colts were on the road tonight against the Saginaw Spirit in the first of a weekend double-header. Newly acquired Colts, Nicholas Porco and Ian Lemieux got to play against their old team, and this was Lemieux's first game as a Colt.
In the first period, it was the Colts finding the back of the net first, courtesy of Carolina Hurricanes prospect Ryan Suzuki. Tyson Foerster and Nathan Allensen added the assists. After that, in the last 30 seconds of the frame, it was overage forward Jacob Tortora scoring his second of the year on the powerplay. Nathan Allensen and Riley Piercey got the helpers. The first period would come to a close with the Colts up 2-0.
Just three minutes into the second period it was Ethan Cardwell scoring on the powerplay to put the Spirit on the board. DJ Busdeker and Cole Perfetti got the assists. With just four seconds left in the period, Tyler Tucker scored to bring the Colts lead back to two. Tyson Foerster and Jason Willms picked up the assists on Tucker's third of the season.
The Spirit fought back in the third period scoring two goals. First it was Blade Jenkins, from Danny Katic and Mason Millman. Then, with under two minutes in the third, the Spirit scored to tie the game on the powerplay. Damien Giroux got the goal, with Cole Perfetti and Ilya Solovyov getting the assists.
After 60 minutes, the score was tied up at 3's. Overtime solved nothing, so the game needed a shootout.
Foerster and Porco both scored for the Colts, and Arturs Silovs shut the door on both Spirit shooters to win the game by a score of 4-3.
The Colts are back in action tomorrow afternoon against the Flint Firebirds.
