Barrie Colts News Release
Barrie, ON - Barrie Colts General Manager & Head Scout Jason Ford announced today that they have completed a trade with the Kitchener Rangers
The Barrie Colts acquire forward Jacob Tortora and a conditional 5th round pick (2021) from the Kitchener Rangers in exchange for a conditional 15thround pick in 2019. That pick will be changed to Oshawa's 3rdround pick in 2020 and a Sudbury 2ndround pick in 2023 once Tortora plays a game for the Colts. If he plays in his overage year, the Colts will then send their 2nd round pick in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection Draft.
Also part of the deal that was made is that Barrie has agreed to remove all conditions from the original trade that sent Jacob Tortora to the Rangers, which were Kitchener's 2nd round picks in 2021 and 2022.
Jacob Tortora was originally drafted by Barrie in the 1stround of the 2015 OHL Priority Selection Draft 19thoverall. He was then sent to Kitchener later that year in a trade, but never reported and decided to play in the NCAA at Boston College.
The Victor, New York native is in his second year with the Boston College Eagles and has recorded 15 points in 38 games with the team through the first two seasons.
In his draft year, the 5 foot 8, 161 pound winger played for the Don Mills Flyers of the GTHL and dominated play at his age, scoring 31 goals and recording 68 points in 52 games played. He's also represented the United States on two different occasions, first at the U-17 World Hockey Championships and the once again at the U-18 World Hockey Championships where he put up a combined 9 points in the 12 games played between both tournaments.
"The Colts aim to get Jacob Tortora signed to a standard player agreement so he can step in to our lineup and take on the challenge of everyday play in the OHL. Jacob is a skilled forward that brings game-breaking speed and a number of other offensive attributes. We welcome him to the Barrie Colts family" said Barrie Colts General Manager, Jason Ford.
