Erie Otters News Release

ERIE, PA - The Otters took to home ice on Sunday afternoon against their division rival London Knights, winners of eight straight. After being awarded an early powerplay, Erie gave up a shorthanded goal to Alex Formenton that put the Knights ahead just two minutes into the game. Things got worse when Dalton Duhart found the back of the net just minutes later and extended the Knight's lead to two.

The second period began much like the first, with the Otters drawing an early penalty, but ultimately failing on the powerplay. Only seconds later, however, Petr Cajka broke through and beat London goaltender Joseph Raaymakers and brought Erie within one. Erie continued to pressure the Knights defense until Kurtis Henry scored on a wrist shot to tie the game at two heading into the final period.

In the Third, Alex Formenton got things rolling when he found the back of the net on the carried over powerplay from the second period, and pulled the Knights ahead by one. This only lasted for a few minutes until Gera Poddubnyi settled a puck in front of the net and lifted it past Raaymakers to even the score up at three. Later in the period, the Knights found the back of the net twice in under a minute with goals from Adam Boqvist and Evan Bouchard, putting them ahead by two in the waning minutes of the game. In the final moments, Alex Formenton found the back of the empty net for a hat trick and the Otters fell to the Knights with a final score of 6-3.
