Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - Despite out-shooting the Colorado Eagles 35-29, the Wranglers fell 5-2 at home on Tuesday night, their second straight home defeat. Eagles' forward Luke Fulghum scored two goals (18, 19) while goaltender Adam Brown made 33 saves and Las Vegas suffered their seventh loss in their last 10 games.
Fulghum got the scoring started early for Colorado with a tip-in goal just 1:11 into the game, his 18th of the year. The score came on the first power play of the game, and it was Kyle Ostrow (27) and Kevin Young (21) teaming up on the assists. With just 5:13 left in the first period, Alex Hudson (8) made it a 2-0 game with assists from Kevin Ulanski (29) and Greg Gardner (12). Less than two minutes later Fulghum added his second goal of the game thanks to nifty feeds from Trent Daavetilla (29) and Kyle Ostrow (28), who got his second assist of the evening.
Early in the second period Jesse Mychan would make it a 4-1 game with an unassisted score, his eighth of the year. Midway through the frame though, the Wranglers would finally get on the board, as captain Geoff Paukovich grabbed his fourth of the season, assisted by Adam Huxley (9) and Greg Coburn (9). For Coburn, who is 38 games into his rookie campaign with Las Vegas, he now has assists in back-to-back games.
The Eagles would respond before the period came to a close however, as Trent Daavettila (18) scored on the power-play, assisted by Alex Hudson (11) and Ulanski (29), who both finished with two point nights. The goal gave Colorado a 5-1 lead, and was their second man-advantage score on the evening, giving them 10 such goals in their last nine games.
Las Vegas would add another goal late in the third period, as Charlie Cook cashed in on the power-play with his second goal of the game, assisted by Matt Tassone (13) and Nolan Julseth-White (6). The power-play goal broke an 0-for-11 streak on the man-advantage for Las Vegas, and cut the lead to its ultimate final of 5-2.
The Wranglers and Eagles will face off at Orleans Arena again tomorrow night, Wednesday Feb. 5, at 7:05pm. Las Vegas will then have a day off before taking on the Utah Grizzlies in two straight games (Friday Feb. 7, Saturday Feb. 8) and Bakersfield Condors (Sunday Feb. 9).
