The Jackals are facing the Wings tonight for the fifth of six meetings this season and first, and only, meeting at Wings Stadium. Elmira is 2-1-1 this season against Kalamazoo after claiming a 4-1 win in Elmira on January 29. The Jackals have won two in a row over the Wings by a combined 6-2 score and have limited Kalamazoo to an average of 1.33 goals per game since suffering a 6-5 shootout loss to the Wings on November 22. The Jackals last skated at Wings Stadium on January 16, 2013 and earned a 2-1 win thanks to a last-minute goal by Louie Caporusso. The Jackals sport an all-time record of 3-3-1 at Wings Stadium and have two in a row in this building dating back to December 17, 2011. Elmira hasn't played more than one game in a season at Wings Stadium since the 2010-11 campaign.
Mike Vaskivuo took some time adjusting to his new team after the January 6 trade that brought him to Elmira from Fort Wayne. He had one point, an assist, in his first three games for the Jackals but since January 16 opponents have had extreme difficulty slowing him down. Vaskivuo has registered eight multi-point games in the Jackals' last nine contests (including four three-point games) and now has 21 points (8 goals, 13 assists) in just 12 games with the Jackals. Elmira has scored 34 goals in the 12 games since Vaskivuo has arrived and he has figured in on 62% of them.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals return to home ice on Wednesday, February 12 to take on the Reading Royals. It's a Willowcreek Wednesday where some lucky fans will compete at first intermission to win free golf from Willowcreek Golf Club. Don't forget that groups of 10 or more who book in advance receive discounts off the box office price and preferred seating based on availability. Call 607-734-7825 to get your group outing booked.
