Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, CO. - Colorado Eagles forward Justin Bernhardt stuffed in a loose puck on the side of the net with less than a second remaining in sudden-death overtime to defeat the Rapid City Rush 4-3 on Saturday at the Budweiser Events Center. The victory gives the Eagles back-to-back wins over the Rush to close out the preseason with a record of 2-0.
Eagles forward Ryan Harrison started the scoring with 4:05 remaining in the first period when he flipped a rebound past Rush goaltender Austin Lotz on the powerplay to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. The Rush would bounce back before the horn sounded on the first period when forward Nick Miglio buried a loose puck in the crease to knot the game at 1-1 after one period of play.
Rapid City would claim their first lead of the night just 2:27 into the second period, as forward Brendan Walker drove the low slot and beat Eagles goalie Chris Mason to give the Rush the 2-1 advantage. The lead would be short-lived, as Giffen Nyren would wire home a wrister in transition less than three minutes later to tie the game at 2-2.
Heading into the final frame of regulation, the Eagles would make an early impact and reclaim the lead, as forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel bashed in a rebound in the slot just 23 seconds into the period to give the Eagles the 3-2 edge. Rapid City would once again find an answer, however, when Walker tallied his second goal of the night to tie the game at 3-3 at the 4:43 mark of the third period.
With regulation unable to settle the contest, the Eagles and Rush headed to overtime for a second consecutive contest. With time winding down, Bernhardt jammed away at the side of the cage, driving in a loose puck to give Colorado the 4-3 win in overtime.
The Eagles will open the regular season when they travel to Rapid City to face the Rush on Friday, October 14th at 7:05pm. Season tickets for the 2016-17 season are on-sale now and can be reserved with a $50 deposit per seat by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468). The 2016-17 regular season home schedule kicks off on Saturday, October 15th when the Eagles host the Rapid City Rush. A complete schedule can be found at www.ColoradoEagles.com.
