Wichita, Kansas - The two-time defending Kelly Cup Champion Allen Americans defeated the Wichita Thunder by a score of 2-0 on Saturday night, winning their only preseason contest in a game played at Wichita Ice Center. Boxscore
Gary Steffes, led the way for Allen scoring both goals, while Riley Gill and Jamie Murray split the duty in net for the Americans earning the shutout win. After a scoreless first period, Gary Steffes opened the scoring at 10:07 of the second frame on a pass from Joel Chouinard for the only goal Allen would need. He added his second of the game in the third period as the Americans would end the preseason and training camp with 1-0 record.
"It was fun to get back into game action tonight," said Steffes. "Coach Martinson has put together another great team and we're ready to get things going next Saturday."
Neither team was able to cash in on the power play as the Americans went 0 for 1, while the Thunder went 0 for 3. Wichita outshot Allen 22-20 on the night.
