WEEK IN REVIEW

Friday, March 4 Eagles 1 @ New Mexico Scorpions 3 - Loss

The New Mexico Scorpions scored one goal in the second period and two in the third to beat the Colorado Eagles 3-1 in the first of two games at the Tingley Coliseum. Miguel Beaudry played outstanding between the pipes for New Mexico stopping 35 of 36 shots. Tyler Weiman stopped 22 of 24 shots for the Eagles in just his fifth regulation loss of the season.

Saturday, March 5 Eagles 3 @ New Mexico Scorpions 2 – Win

Coming off back-to-back losses, the Eagles with a short bench beat the Scorpions 3-2, behind the superb goaltending of Tyler Weiman who saved 25 of 27 shots. Eagles defensemen Brad Williamson and Matt Desrosiers each had a goal and an assist in the win. Colorado gave up a two-goal lead when Ladislav Kouba and Ryan Murphy scored goals and tied the game 6:59 into the third period, but Ryan Tobler scored the game winner just two minutes later. The Eagles had only 13 skaters for nearly the entire game, but still found a way to win.

Sunday, March 6 Eagles 3 @ San Angelo Saints 2 – Win OT

Playing in their second game in less than 24 hours with a short bench, the Eagles accomplished the nearly impossible, scoring three unanswered goals and coming back from a two-goal deficit. Trevor Weisgerber scored both goals for San Angelo to take the two-goal lead, but the 13-man bench of the Eagles did not give up. Instead they dug deep and found a way to win. Karlis Zirnis scored the last two goals for the Eagles including a backhand game-winner 1:21 into the overtime period. Tyler Weiman and Scott Reid each played well between the pipes, Weiman saved 24 of 26 shots and Reid saved 32 of 35 shots.

The Gorillas come to the Budweiser Events Center with a three game winning streak including a 6-1 thrashing of the Lubbock Cotton Kings on Saturday night. Amarillo is currently in the drivers seat in the Southern Conference playoff race, and holds a one-point lead over the San Angelo Saints for first place in the Southwest Division.

Friday, March 11 Colorado Eagles vs. New Mexico Scorpions 7:05 p.m. MST Radio-KKPL-FM-99.9 The Point www.sportsjuice.com www.chltv.com

The Eagles and Scorpions battled to a 1-1 split in the weekend series last weekend at the Tingley Coliseum. These are two very important games for the Scorpions who are currently five points behind Tulsa for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Northern Conference. The two games at the BEC this weekend are the final two of an eleven game season series. The Eagles lost their first game in regulation this season to the Scorpions on Friday night, but came back to win on Saturday. Colorado is 6-1-2 against the Scorpions in 2004-05, and 13-2-4 all-time. It will be another battle of the goaltenders as both Colorado's Tyler Weiman and New Mexico's Miguel Beaudry were outstanding this past weekend.
