Bucks Lose 2-1 In Overtime In Wichita

WICHITA, Kansas – The defending CHL Champion Laredo Bucks dropped a 2-1 overtime decision in Wichita on Monday night. Despite the loss the Bucks picked up a point and moved into a first place tie atop the Southeast Division with Austin. Laredo is 29-22-3 with 61 points and they have a game in hand on Austin. The Bucks are on the road in the midst of a season high five game road trip. The Bucks are in Oklahoma City on Tuesday. Laredo returns home on March 12th against Austin. Neither team was able to score in a very slow paced first period as the Thunder out shot the Bucks 6-5.

In the second period the Bucks were unable to score despite five power play chances and out shooting Wichita 10-4. The game went scoreless to the third.

The Bucks struck first as forward Steve Simoes centered to forward Igor Agarunov who spun around and snapped a wrist shot into the net at 14:14. It was the 12th of the season for Agarunov. Just 41 seconds later the Thunder tied it as forward Travis Clayton scored on a rebound chance at 14:55. Bucks goalie David Guerrera sparkled in the third making numerous big saves to get the game to overtime.

The game went to overtime and just 13 seconds in Clayton scored on a two-on-one rush to give Wichita the win. FINAL SCORE Wichita 2, Laredo 1 in overtime.

Guerrera allowed just two goals on 26 shots and took the hard luck overtime loss to drop to 13-12-2. Jamie Vandespyker was solid in net for Wichita stopping 24 of 25 to improve to 18-9-2. The Bucks were 0-10 on the power play while the Thunder were 0-5.

The Laredo Bucks have declared a whiteout for their Saturday game against the Austin Ice Bats. The Bucks will assist fans with the whiteout by offering 10 percent off all white merchandise at the Bucks Team Store located at the LEC. Fans are encouraged to wear white in a show of solidarity for the hometown Bucks. The effect of the whiteout creates a feeling of unity between the fans and the team.
