Colorado Eagles Center Riley Nelson Called up to AHL's San Antonio Rampage

Windsor, CO – The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Eagles center Riley Nelson has been called up to play for the Florida Panthers affiliate team, the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL).

The Cranbrooke, British Columbia native is one of six Eagles players on two way contracts with National Hockey League teams. Like Nelson, Eagles defenseman Igor Bondarevs is on a two-way contract with the Florida Panthers. Eagles netminder Ryan Bach, defensemen Scott Swanson and Brad Williamson, and right winger Greg Pankewicz are all on two-way contracts with Wilkes/Barre Scranton of the AHL, the affiliate team of the Pittsburg Penguins.

In twenty-seven games with the Colorado Eagles, Nelson he has amassed 43 points (19-24-43), placing him sixth in the CHL for most points and fifth in the league for most goals scored. Nelson left Colorado yesterday to prepare to play for the Rampage tonight. The 5'9", 160-pound center will play his first game of 2004 against the Rochester Americans in San Antonio at 6:00 p.m. (MST).

"Nelson is an incredible hockey player," stated Colorado Eagles General Manager, Ralph Backstrom. "He is the caliber of player that can succeed in the American Hockey League."
