Laredo Bucks News Release


LAREDO, Texas – The Laredo Bucks finished out the final days of 2003 with 2-1-1 record in the last week of the year. The Bucks lost 3-2 in over time in San Angelo on Friday night, but came back with a 4-1 win over Lubbock at the Laredo Entertainment Center on Saturday. Tuesday night the Bucks lost 5-3 on the road at the Dodge Arena to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Wednesday night, New Years Eve, the Bucks responded with a 6-1 whipping of the Bees at the LEC. The Bucks are home this Saturday versus the San Angelo Saints. · This Saturday night Time Warner Cable subscribers can bring their cable bill to the LEC box office and receive one free upper bowl ticket with the purchase of any regular priced ticket.

NEXT UP

·The Bucks host San Angelo on Saturday night at the LEC. This coming Wednesday night Laredo hosts the Austin Ice Bats. Both nights the face off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the LEC.

BUCKS VS. UPCOMING OPPONENTS

SAN ANGELO SAINTS · The Bucks are 3-1-0 versus the Saints in 2003-04. Laredo is 2-0 at the LEC and 1-0-1 in San Angelo. In the last meeting on 12/26 Bucks forward Chris Grenville scored with 8.9 seconds left in regulation time to tie the game 2-2, but Ryan Finnerty won it for San Angelo in overtime. Last year the Bucks were 4-2-2 against San Angelo.

AUSTIN ICE BATS · The Bucks are 4-1-0 versus the Ice Bats in 2003-04. Laredo is 2-0 at the LEC and 2-1 in Austin. The last meeting between the teams took place on 12/05 at the Bat Cave. Austin scored a pair of third period goals to tie the game, but the Bucks picked up the win in the shootout 3-2. Forward Jeff Bes scored both regulation goals. Last year Laredo was 3-7-0 against Austin.

CHL ALL STAR STARTERS

· The CHL announced this week that Bucks forwards Jess Bes and Brent Cullaton have been selected starters for the Southern Conference All-Star team for the 2004 Dodge CHL All-Star game in Albuquerque , New Mexico, on January 22nd. The Northern Conference starters were also announced this week.

CRAZY SCHEDULE

· The Bucks and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees have played five of the last nine games on the CHL schedule against each other. The two teams have already played nine of their 13 scheduled meetings. The next match up is set for Friday, January 9th.

RED HOT BUCK

· Bucks forward Brent Cullaton has reeled off 14 points in the last seven games and leads the CHL with 56 points, 28 coming in his last 14 games. Cullaton has recorded at least a point in 19 of the last 20 games.

LEC SWEET LEC

· Laredo is 14-1-1 at home this year and has outscored opponents 71-30 on home ice. The Bucks have gone 21-1-1 in their last 23 games at the LEC.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

· Laredo has the second best winning percentage in the CHL on the road at 71.9%, and their 11 road wins are third most in the CHL, trailing the 12 by Amarillo and Memphis.

· 12/31/03 – WEDNESDAY – The Laredo Bucks systematically took the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees apart by the score of 6-1 in front of 7,146 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center on New Years Eve. Forward Jeff Bes had a goal and three assists and forward Brent Cullaton had a pair of goals and two helpers as the Bucks improved to 14-1-1 on home ice. Laredo is 25-5-2 overall with a CHL and Southeast division best 52 points. Bucks goalie Marco Emond stopped 26 of 27 shots to improve to 14-2-2. Jeff Levy had a tough night allowing five goals on 20 shots thru two periods to fall to 12-9-2. FINAL SCORE Laredo 6, Rio Grande Valley 1.

· 12/30/03 – TUESDAY – The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees ended a five game losing streak to the Laredo Bucks with a 5-3 win on Tuesday night at the Dodge Arena. Bees forward Bill Newson had a pair of goals to power his team to the win. Laredo dropped to 24-5-2, but remains with a CHL and Southeast division leading 50 points. Bees goalie Jeff Levy stopped 28 of 31 shots to improve to 12-8-2. David Guerrera allowed four goals on 29 shots to drop to 11-3-0. FINAL SCORE Rio Grande Valley 5, Laredo 3.

· 12/27/03 – SATURDAY – The Laredo Bucks rebounded from a tough loss on Friday night with a solid 4-1 victory over the Lubbock Cotton Kings in front of 6,581 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Forward Jeff Bes led the way with three assists as the Bucks picked up two more standings points. Laredo has recorded at least a point in 15 of the last 16 games. Laredo is a CHL best 24-4-2 with 50 points and in first place in the Southeast division. Marco Emond stopped 19 of 20 shots to improve to 13-2-2. FINAL SCORE Laredo 4, Lubbock 1.

· 12/26/03 – FRIDAY – Forward Chris Grenville scored with 8.9 seconds to go in regulation time to force overtime, but the Bucks fell 3-2 in San Angelo when forward Ryan Finnerty scored on a power play to give the Saints the win in extra time. The Bucks picked up a point to improve their CHL leading total to 48, they are 23-4-2 this season and have recorded points in 14 of the last 15 games. Scott Reid stopped 25 of 27 shots to improve to 14-7-1. Marco Emond allowed three goals on 21 shots and dropped to 12-2-2. The Bucks were 0-3 on the power play while the Saints went 1-5. FINAL SCORE San Angelo 3, Laredo 2 in overtime.
