Indianapolis Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, IN-- The Indianapolis Ice announced today that the team has signed left winger Ken "Cowboy" Boone and centerman Aaron Smith to contracts this afternoon. Both players are expected to be in the line-up tonight when the Ice hosts the Corpus Christi Rayz at 7:00 p.m. from the Pepsi Coliseum. To make room for the duo, the Ice placed defenseman Chad McIver and forward Philippe Choiniere on injured reserve.
"With the rash of injuries and the departure of Remi (Royer), we needed a centerman and some grit in the line-up," said Ice Head Coach Ken McRae. "Hopefully, Aaron and Ken can bring some emotion and intensity to the table."
Boone, 27, was a member of the Ice's 2000 CHL Championship Team and had his best two seasons as a pro in Indy with 44 points (23G, 21A) and a CHL Ice-best 661 penalty minutes in 112 games from 1999-2001. The rugged winger has also spent time in the East Coast Hockey and United Hockey League and has amassed 64 points (34G, 30A) and 1,344 penalty minutes in 229 professional games.
"It is good to have Ken back," said Ice General Manager Larry Linde. "He brings a level of intensity and energy to the Ice that has been lacking recently. We expect him to provide a spark."
The 5-11, 190-pound Smith made his professional debut this season with the expansion Texas Wildcatters of the ECHL. In 26 games with the club, he registered four points (2G, 2A) and 53 penalty minutes. He is a former U.S. Hockey National Junior Player of the Year and is coming off a three-year run with the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks of the CCHA (NCAA-I), where he compiled 46 points (24G, 22A) and 106 penalty minutes in 90 games.
Tickets for this weekends' games can be purchased at all Ticketmaster locations including select Marsh Supermarkets, Karma Records, select L.S. Ayres and the Indiana State Fairgrounds and Conseco Fieldhouse box offices, or by calling 239-5151 or online at ticketmaster.com.
