SOUTHAVEN, Miss – The two-time defending CHL champion Memphis RiverKings fell short of successfully defending home ice Friday night, losing 4-2 to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs before a crowd of 3,478 at the DeSoto Civic Center.

Forward Dan Wildfong had two goals, including the game-winner with 4:34 remaining in the second period, to give the Mudbugs their second victory of the season over the RiverKings and put his team back into first place in the Northeast Division.

The first period of the contest saw several good offensive opportunities by both teams, with each squad's goaltender coming up big on several saves. RiverKings goaltender Mike Minard stopped all twelve shots he faced in the period, while Mudbugs netminder Jeff Blair was just as effective, stopping all eight shots on goal.

The second period turned quickly in the favor of Bossier-Shreveport, as Colin Kendall took a pass from forward Quade Lightbody and fired it past Minard for the first score of the contest.

That goal was followed less than two minutes later by the first of Wildfong's two goals, a shot early on a power play for the Mudbugs. The goal put Bossier-Shreveport up 2-0, where they would stay until Wildfong's next marker.

The scoring finally concluded for the Mudbugs late in the second, as defenseman Chris Brassard beat the RiverKings defense and slid a puck past Minard for the team's fourth and final goal of the night.

Memphis put up a game effort to try and get back into the contest late, with forwards Alexandre Mathieu and Jay Neal both scoring to draw the RiverKings within two goals. But staunch defense by the Mudbugs and an ill-timed bench minor on the RiverKings, following a fight late in the contest, left Memphis short against a determined Bossier-Shreveport squad.

The win moved the Mudbugs back into first place in the Northeast Division, at 20-7-3 and with 43 points overall. The RiverKings dropped to 21-15-0 on the season, and find themselves down one point to Bossier-Shreveport while having played six more games.

The RiverKings will look to make two out of three this week on the ice as they lace up tomorrow night against the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05 pm at the DeSoto Civic Center.
