Color out Cancer Week Begins for Storm

Tri-City Storm News Release


The Tri-City Storm prepares for two more home games this weekend against division rivals Lincoln and Omaha.

The Storm has lost one game in regulation, accruing one point from this weekend by taking its game to Cedar Rapids to a shootout.

This week is one of the most special of the season for the Storm, featuring Color Out Cancer Night on Friday, presented by Midway Auto Dealerships.

The Storm will host a paint the ice event this Thursday, October 15, from 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. Tickets will be available for Friday's game at the Thursday event for a group rate of $12.

For every ticket purchased, four dollars will be donated to area charities fighting against cancer.

Friday, October 9 vs. Cedar Rapids: Loss, 2-1 (SO)

Saturday, October 10 vs. Des Moines: Loss, 4-2

Tough to beat

Defensemen Tory Dello (+6 rating) is tied for the best plus-minus rating in the USHL through the first five games of the season.

Dello patrols the blue line with partner Andrew Peski (+5). The pairing has not been on the ice for an even strength goal this season.

Peski, in his first USHL season, is committed to the University of North Dakota. Dello, the team captain, is a Notre Dame commit.

The 18-year-old Peski had a three-point game (1g, 2a) Oct. 2 at Chicago, tied for the most-productive game by a defenseman this season.

Meyer mania

Before his streak was snapped, the Powell, OH native was tied with Lincoln forward Ludvig Hoff for the best goal-scoring streak to begin the year; Hoff is also on a five-game goal scoring streak and leads the league with six goals.

The 18-year-old Meyer is in his first season with the Storm and comes to Tri-City after leading the T1EHL in assists (30) and points (51) with the Ohio Blue Jackets in 2014-15.

Other News and Notes.

- The Storm's line of Dan Labosky - Alex Limoges - Carson Meyer has combined for seven of the Storm's 16 goals, best for any line on the Storm. -

Tri-City surrenders two goals a game, second-best in the league behind Cedar Rapids. The Storm allows 23.8 shots per game, second in the USHL.

- John Marino has five points (1g and 4a), tied for most points in the league by a defenseman.

Game 3 vs. Cedar Rapids: Cedar Rapids hands Tri-City first loss in shootout, 2-1

The Storm earned a point Carson Meyer scored the lone goal for the Storm Friday in a 2-1 shootout loss ot the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders Friday at the Viaero Event Center.

Meyer's goal midway through the second, his team-leading fourth of the season, placed the Storm ahead by one. Jason Krych and Jack McNeely both took home assists, their first points of the season

Cedar Rapids' Luke Morgan tied the game midway through the third.

Storm goalie Matt Greenfield stopped 28 of 29 shots hurled on net and two of three shooters in the three- round shootout.

Game 4 vs. Des Moines: Bucs break tie in third, take game, 4-2

Wade Allison and Monte Graham each scored their first goals of the season, but the Des Moines Buccaneers scored twice in the third to best the Storm, 4-2, Saturday at the Viaero Event Center.

Before the Bucs tallied twice in the final frame, the game had a back-and-forth feel. After Des Moines' first goal in the late stages of the first, Graham answered 61 seconds later to even the score.

Allison's goal midway through the second tied the game at two. A returning player for the Storm, Allison had six goals and 13 points for Tri-City last season.
