Bloomington Thunder News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Illinois - The Bloomington Thunder announced Monday afternoon that they have acquired forward Jake Durflinger from the Sioux City Musketeers in exchange for a Phase I draft pick in the 2016 USHL Draft. The trade comes after a weekend sweep of the Musketeers where the Thunder only allowed one goal on the weekend.
The Thunder have sent the Musketeers a Phase-I, fourth round pick in the upcoming 2016 USHL Draft in exchange for Durflinger. Bloomington acquired the same pick from the Sioux Falls Stampede in trade for defenseman Joey Maguire this preseason.
Durflinger, 18, was named the assistant captain of the Musketeers during the offseason, after topping the Western Conference with Sioux City in the 2014-15 regular season. The 5-foot-7 forward was the top returning score to the program with 7 goals and 15 assists for 22 points during his rookie season. He led the team with 208 penalty minutes, which was also the second highest total in the league behind Nicky Wolff (University of Minnesota-Duluth) of the Des Moines Buccaneers.
Through three games this season, he already has scored 2 goals on just 5 shots, including one on the power play. Durflinger will report to Bloomington as the Thunder prepare for two games with the Fargo Force, a team that the forward saw in the first game of the year. The Musketeers topped Fargo 4-3 in overtime.
Over the weekend, Durflinger was not active in two games against Bloomington, but is familiar with the Thunder and the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. The Walnut Creek, CA native played the Thunder twice in 2014-15 over a weekend series. In those two games he was a physical player who registered 19 penalty minutes including 15 minutes for a fight that broke out with Logan Lambdin. The Thunder went on to win the game 7-3.
Before joining the Musketeers in the United States Hockey League, Durflinger played his 2013-14 season in the North American Hockey League with the Corpus Christi Ice Rays. He led the team with 29 points (12g, 17a) and 7 points came on the power play.
