Gamblers Split Weekend

After falling to the Madison Capitols 6-4 on Friday, the Green Bay Gamblers earned a split on the weekend, with a 3-2 win over the Waterloo Black Hawks on Saturday at the Resch Center. With the win the Gamblers sit at 1-3-1 on the regular season.

The Madison Capitols found plenty of offense on Friday, defeating the Green Bay Gamblers 6-4 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin. The Capitols had a balanced attack as six different players found the back of the net. Gamblers team captain Sam Saliba continued to stay hot with a goal and an assist. Saliba has tallied at least one point in each of his last four games. Joey Marooney, Jack McCarthy and Nick Poehling each had a goal in the loss. Gamblers goaltender Kevin Reich turned aside 20 shots to fall to 0-1-1 on the season.

The Gamblers returned to the friendly confines of the Resch Center on Saturday for a tilt with the Waterloo Black Hawks. Green Bay jumped out to a 3-0 lead and hung on 3-2 for the team's first win on the young season. Gamblers forward Ryan Smith tallied his first of the year, to open the scoring at the 5:13 mark of the first period. The Gamblers made it 2-0 when Wausau native Adam Parsells fired a bullet from the slot area into the top corner (3:33/2nd period). Less than two minutes later, Nick Poehling found his twin brother Jack in the slot area. Jack kicked the puck from his skate to his stick, firing a shot past Waterloo goaltender Cam Morris to make it a 3-0 affair (4:59/2nd period). Waterloo responded late in the 2nd period with a pair of goals 30 seconds apart to cut the Gamblers lead to one heading into the third period. The Gambler penalty kill, which went 8-for-8 in the game, including killing off two 5-on-3's and the exploits of goaltender Adam Huska preserved the one-goal lead. Huska made 39 saves for his first career USHL win.

HUSKA EARNS FIRST USHL WIN

Green Bay goaltender Adam Huska earned his first career USHL win on Saturday in the team's 3-2 win over the Waterloo Black Hawks. Huska, who was selected by the New York Rangers at the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, was exceptional making 39 saves.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Green Bay was 8-for-8 on the penalty kill in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Waterloo Black Hawks. The Gamblers were twice two men down and a man down on three occasions in the third period. On the season the Gamblers are at 80% on the penalty kill. The power play sits at 18.2%.

TOP SCORERS

Green Bay Gamblers team captain Sam Saliba registered a goal and an assist in Friday's 6-4 loss to the Madison Capitols. Saliba who was ejected from Friday's game for butt ending, also per league rule forcing him to miss Saturday's game, ranks 7th in the league in scoring (3 goals & 3 assists). Saliba has notched at least one point in each game he has played this season. Forward Joey Marooney ranks 9th in the league in goals (3)

GAMBLERS HOST YOUNGSTOWN ON SATURDAY

The Green Bay Gamblers welcome the defending Anderson Cup champion Youngstown Phantoms to the Resch Center on Saturday, October 10. Princess Elsa from the movie "Frozen" will be appearing at the Gamblers game on Saturday, October 17. Elsa will be available for photos at the Screamin Head Buzz Red Carpet, located on the Tundraland concourse at the Resch Center. Elsa will also be performing the hit song "Let it Go" during the 1st intermission. The Elsa appearance is presented by Knots N' Bows.

GAMBLERS HOCKEY ON THE AIR

The Gamblers are in Chicago, Illinois on Friday and you can see all the action at Anduzzi's Sports Club on Holmgren Way. Face-off between the Gamblers and Chicago Steel from the Fox Valley Ice Arena is set for 7:35 PM. All Gambler road games will be televised at Anduzzi's Sports Club on Holmgren Way.

PUCK WALL

Give your name a permanent place on the Tundraland Concourse at the Resch Center by purchasing a puck on the Tundraland Puck Wall. Honor family members and friends, or celebrate a special event or memory in a unique and lasting way. Pucks will become a permanent part of the Tundraland Puck Wall located outside Section 218 on the Tundraland Concourse. Proceeds from the puck wall to benefit youth hockey in Northeast Wisconsin.

ACE HONORING LOCAL HEROES

This past Saturday, Gamblers team mascot "Ace" was at the Heroes of the Community event at the Pathways Church in Appleton. The event honored heroes in the community; Appleton Fire Department, Appleton Police Department, ThedaStar Air Medical Team, Gold Cross Ambulance Service, National Guard, Marines, Navy and many more. Various non-profits from the Fox Valley were also on hand sharing their mission. HARTNER NAMED AIR FORCE TEAM CAPTAIN

Air Force Academy senior defenseman Max Hartner has been named the Falcons team captain for the 2015-2016 campaign. Hartner, played three seasons in Green Bay (2009-12), captaining the Gamblers to the 2012 Anderson and Clark Cups. In three seasons with the Falcons, Hartner has appeared in 77 games registering 14 goals and 13 assists. Hartner had a goal on Friday night, as the Falcons upset #5 ranked Denver 5-4 in overtime. Hartner joins Grant Arnold (Denver), Sheldon Dries (Western Michigan), Nick Schilkey (Ohio State) and Andy Welinski (Minnesota-Duluth), as former Gamblers who will serve as captains for their respective collegiate teams this season.
