Syracuse, NY (8/4/2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs won their second straight game on Tuesday, beating the Pawtucket Red Sox, 3-1. Syracuse pitching allowed only one run while striking out seven in the win. Matt Skole and Matt den Dekker each hit solo home runs. The Chiefs moved into a fifth-place tie with the Red Sox after the win.

Syracuse (45-67) struck first, taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Skole led off the inning with a solo home run off of Pawtucket starter Zeke Spruill. Not to be outdone, den Dekker blasted a solo shot of his own over the right-center field wall in the next at-bat, giving the Chiefs a 2-0 advantage.

The Chiefs had the 2-0 lead until Pawtucket (44-66) put a run on the board in the top of the sixth. Cole surrendered back-to-back singles to former Chief Sandy Leon and Allen Craig to put runners on the corners with two away. Garin Cecchini followed with a single of his own, scoring Leon to make the score 2-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, however, the Chiefs answered with another run of their own. After a line out and a fly out, Spruill surrendered back-to-back triples to den Dekker and Ricky Hague, bringing the score to 3-1.

The Syracuse pitching staff threw lights-out baseball on Tuesday night. Cole started very strong, bringing a one-hitter into the sixth inning. Cole struck out six while only allowing four hits. Blake Treinen came in the game in relief of Cole and only allowed one hit while striking out a batter in two and one-thirds innings of work. Finally, Rafael Martin pitched a scoreless ninth to close the game out.

The Chiefs and Red Sox play the final game of a three-game series Wednesday evening with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. Syracuse will send right-hander Taylor Jordan to the mound to face right-hander Matt Barnes.
