Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Goaltender Cole Kehler posted 46 saves, two off his career high, to turn away seven power play chances as the Everett Silvertips fell to the Portland Winterhawks, 4-1 before 5,114 fans at XFINITY Arena on Friday night.
The Silvertips fell to Portland on home ice for the first time since December 2015 and to a 4-2-0-0 mark in the season series. Dominic Zwerger scored the lone Silvertips goal in the second period.
After a squandered power play early, the Silvertips yielded a shorthanded breakaway goal to Alex Overhardt at 10:44 for a 1-0 deficit and Weinger followed with his 14th at 1:33 of the second period, streaking to the net on a backhand tuck.
Zwerger and the Silvertips bounced back at 7:01 with a rebound goal to the glove side of Kehler after a point shot by Patrick Bajkov.
After Kehler turned away 16 shots in the second period, Brad Ginnell pounced on a rebound at the 11:12 mark of the third period for a 3-1 edge and Ryan Hughes put the game away on an empty netter with 6.1 second remaining in regulation, on the back end of the Winterhawks' seventh and final penalty kill.
Carter Hart took the loss with 24 saves.
