Wisconsin Rapids, WI - Cody Koback, who was drafted in the 10th Round (322nd overall) of the 2011 MLB Draft, has signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox. The junior outfielder/pitcher from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point was playing in his second season for the Rafters this summer, while he awaited the right offer. He has been assigned to the Red Sox rookie team in Fort Myers, Florida and is expected to arrive Friday to begin his professional baseball career.
"The Rafters are very excited for Cody," said general manager Liz Kern. "It is great to see him get this opportunity to play professional baseball."
In 28 games for the Rafters this summer, Koback was second on the team with a .287 batting average (33-for-115) while tallying seven doubles, four triples, nine RBI, and scoring 16 runs. He also was 9-for-11 in stolen base attempts.
"I'm just very excited to go to a winning organization like the Red Sox," he said in a statement after being drafted earlier this summer. "I was glad to talk with my family and share the excitement of the day with them; just very excited."
