Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - After two games in Thunder Bay, the Rochester Honkers and Thunder Bay Border Cats made the international trip to Rochester for three more games. The Border Cats won by a score of 8-6 Friday night at Mayo Field, taking a series lead 2-1, with two games left in the second half series between the two teams.

D.J. Snelten (Fr, Minnesota) got the start for the Honkers, going four innings allowing five runs on six hits while striking out seven. Snelten got the loss on the day, falling to a 0-2 record, his second loss in a row.

Johnny Coy (RsJr, Wichita State) continued his assault on the RBI leader boards with three more today. Coy went 1-for-5 with a double and a run scored along with the three runs batted in. Coy is now sitting with 30 runs batted this season and is in fourth place in the league overall. Devin Thaut (Jr, Southern Polytechnic State) also had a productive day at bat going 2-for-3 at the dish. Thaut also drove in one and scored one run on the game.

The Honkers fell into an early hole allowing two runs to cross the plate in the first inning. They would battle back in the fourth with a four run inning, led by the double off the bat of Coy. It would be all Border Cat control from there on, scoring five runs before the Honkers could answer with two more, which would not be enough.

The two teams will be back at it for two more games this weekend. Tomorrow's game will be at 7:05 pm, followed by a matinee Sunday, July 24 at 1:05 pm. The Honkers will follow that up with a three game series, alternating home field advantage with Mankato. The series will start in Rochester Monday, travel to Mankato and then be back to Rochester again for the final game on Wednesday.
