WILMINGTON - The Delaware Blue Coats (20-9), the NBA G League affiliate of the Philadelphia 76ers, beat the Motor City Cruise (20-10), 125-118 on Sunday afternoon at Chase Fieldhouse. This win puts Delaware in sole possession of third place in the Eastern Conference. The playoff-bound Blue Coats improve to 10-3 at home this season.
Shamorie Ponds led Delaware with 28 points (11-16 FG, 2-3 3FG), 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Charles Bassey, on assignment from the 76ers, posted a double-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
Two-way contract player Myles Powell dropped 23 points (7-10 FG, 3-5 3FG) and 3 rebounds for the Blue Coats. Delaware's Aaron Henry added 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.
The Blue Coats held a 20-point halftime lead, the team's second straight game with a double-digit lead after 24 minutes. The Cruise cut the lead down to three in the fourth quarter, but the Blue Coats held the lead the rest of the way, not trailing after the first frame.
Cassius Stanley dropped 25 points (9-15 FG, 5-8 3FG, 1-2 FT), 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks to lead the Cruise. Derrick Walton Jr. added 18 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds for Motor City.
