St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (May 20, 2011) - Just as the clock struck midnight the St. Paul Saints got a game winning extra inning hit from Justin Snyder as they defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes 3-2 on Friday night in 10 innings in front of 4,013 at Midway Stadium.

After a 1:42 rain delay before the ballgame the ending was worth the wait. In the 10th Adam Frost reached on a one out single. He stole second and then Snyder stepped to the plate. After working the count full, he blooped a single to shallow right that scored Frost from second to win the game.

The Goldeyes got on the board first in the second when Price Kendall reached on a double and scored when Jonathan Wyatt followed with a double of his own for a 1-0 lead.

Frost, who accounted for all three Saints runs, helped the Saints answer in the bottom of the third. Hector Bernal led off with a double and Frost followed with a two-run homer to left, his first of the season, giving the Saints a 2-1 lead. Frost finished the night 3-5 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored.

The game remained that way until the seventh. With reliever Roberto Rolon on the mound for the Saints he gave up a lead off double to Justin Bass. Kendell followed with a sacrifice bunt moving Bass to third. Lefty reliever Edwin Walker came in to face the lefty Wyatt who promptly singled to right-center scoring Bass to tie the game.

Saints starter Schmidt pitched well going 5.1 innings allowing just one run on two hits while walking five and striking out seven. Saints closer Robert Manuel pitched the final 2.0 innings of perfect baseball to earn the win.

The same two teams meet in game two of the three game series on Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Alain Quijano (1-0, 3.00) against Goldeyes RHP Erick Carrillo (0-0, 1.50). It is the Naked Game: Enrico Palazzo Night. The game can be heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
