Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

AMARILLO, TX. - Captains right fielder Bryan Sabatella returned to the starting lineup Friday night after missing four games with a hamstring injury and made his presence felt, with two runs and two RBIs helping the Captains to a 9-4 win in Amarillo. Shreveport-Bossier also got solid starting pitching from Ryan DiPietro (2-0) for their first road win of the season.

DiPietro was up three runs before he even took the mound. The Captains scored in the first when Sabatella doubled to score Joey Gathright. He was then knocked in on an Andres Rodriguez RBI single. Rodriguez scored the third run of the inning when Uriak Marquez grounded out to short.

Shreveport-Bossier would extend the lead in the third with three more. Sabatella reached on a throwing error by Amarillo shortstop Jason White. Rodgriguez's double would put men on second and third with no outs. After Marquez popped out to the catcher, Bryan Frichter would plate two with an RBI single. The Captains would add another on an RBI single by Brian Peterson, the second of his four hits, on a 4-5 night.

Amarillo got on board in the third when newly-acquired third baseman Van Pope tripled in his first at bat for the Sox. He would score on Chris Nash's ground out. Pope would triple again in the seventh, scoring a run to cut the Shreveport-Bossier lead to 7-2.

The Captains would make it 7-1 in the fourth when Gathright walked, stole second, took third on Robert Perry's groundout, and scored on Sabatella's sacrifice fly to left.

For his second straight outing, DiPietro got terrific run support. He exited after six innings with the lead in his favor, 7-1. He allowed two hits and one run in, walking two and striking out two.

In the eighth the Captains would add two more runs on a Gathright RBI single and a bases loaded walk to Rodriguez. Amarillo scored two to tighten the score to 9-4 in the eighth on a two-run single by left fielder Lee Cruz off Shreveport-Bossier reliever Mark Haynes. Lee extended his league-leading RBI total to 19.

In the ninth Shreveport-Bossier reliever Dan Griffin retired the first two batters he faced and got first baseman Chris Nash to ground to short but Frichter's throw pulled Rodriguez off the first base bag to extend the game. However, Griffin would strike out shortstop Jason White to end the ball game and improve the Captains record to 5-3 on the year.

Game two of the Captains' three game set in Amarillo takes place Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The Captains will start Richard Salazar (0-0, 1.54) against Sox starter Ryan Mitchell (0-0, 5.19).
