Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox batters could not string together what they needed to against the Shreveport-Bossier Captains' pitchers, as the Sox lost their fourth straight by a score of 9-4 in front of 2,237 fans on Friday night at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.

Sox starter Colin Allen (0-1) got the loss, going one out short of three innings, allowing six of the nine Captains runs. Shreveport-Bossier starter Mark DiPietro (2-0) got the win, allowing just two hits and one run in six innings of work.

Shreveport-Bossier started things off fast with three runs off two hits in the first inning and three runs off three hits and an error in the third inning to knock out Allen and take a 6-0 lead.

Amarillo was able to get their first run in the third inning as Van Pope tripled and scored on a Chris Nash groundout. The Captains responded with a manufactured run in the fourth as Joey Gathright walked, stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on a Bryan Sabatella sacrifice fly for a 7-1 lead.

The Sox got back on the board in the seventh as Tim Alberts doubled and scored on another Pope triple for a 7-2 score.

The Captains and Sox traded a pair of runs in the eighth, including an eighth inning two-run double by Lee Cruz, but couldn't score further for a 9-4 Amarillo defeat.

With the loss, the Sox fall to 1-7, while the Captains improve to 5-3. Saturday, Amarillo will on Shreveport-Bossier for the second game of the three-game set at 7:05pm, with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on Ustream, via www.amarillosox.com.
